About

Abel served as Bishop of Reims in Francia, in what is now modern-day France, during the early medieval period. Though details of his life are sparse, he is remembered as a faithful pastor who governed the see of Reims with devotion. He has been venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church, particularly through the scholarly work of the Bollandists, who preserved the memory of many lesser-known saints of the early Middle Ages. His cult is modest but enduring, a witness to the many bishops of the early Church whose quiet fidelity has been all but forgotten by history.

Suggested prayer

O God, who called St. Abel to shepherd Your people at Reims, grant through his intercession that bishops may govern with holiness and fidelity. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
