Bridget was born around 1303 into a noble Swedish family. Married to Ulf Gudmarsson, she raised eight children, one of whom, Catherine, is also a saint. After her husband's death she devoted herself entirely to prayer and pilgrimage.
She received visions throughout her life, which she dictated to her confessors; they were collected as the Revelations. She founded the Order of the Most Holy Savior, known as the Brigittines, and traveled to Rome, where she lived for many years and worked for the reform of the Church.
She died in Rome in 1373 and was canonized in 1391. She is co-patroness of Europe and is venerated as a patron of widows.
Prayer
St. Bridget, who raised eight children, then left Sweden for Rome to work for the reform of the Church, pray for widows and for the people of Europe, that they may find comfort in Christ and renew their faith. Amen.
