About

Saint Calogerus the Anchorite was a hermit monk venerated as a saint by both the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, and honored as the patron of many towns and villages across Sicily. Living an austere life of solitude and prayer, he embodied the ancient eremitical tradition of the Christian East carried into the western Mediterranean. Devotion to him flourished in the Sicilian communities of Naro, Campofranco, Petralia Sottana, and San Salvatore di Fitali, where his memory endured through centuries of popular piety. He represents the hermits who sanctified the wild places of the Mediterranean with their prayer.

Suggested prayer

O God, who called Saint Calogerus to the solitude of the hermit's cell and made him a fountain of devotion in Sicily, grant through his intercession that we may find you in stillness and silence. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
