About

Dorotheus of Gaza, called the Archimandrite or Abba Dorotheus, was a sixth-century monk and abbot of the monastery of Seridus near Gaza in Palestine. Raised in a devout family, he entered the ascetic life under the guidance of the holy elders Barsanuphius and John, whose letters and instructions he faithfully recorded. As abbot he wrote a series of teachings on the spiritual life, humility, and obedience that became a classic of monastic literature, influencing both Eastern and Western traditions. Honored on June 5, he is a trusted guide for all who seek the inward path of prayer.
