About

Flavia Domitilla was a Roman noblewoman of the first century, granddaughter of the Emperor Vespasian and niece of the Emperors Titus and Domitian. She married her second cousin, the consul Titus Flavius Clemens, and moved in the highest circles of imperial Rome.

Though born to power and wealth, Domitilla is honored in Christian tradition as a convert to the faith, and through her the Gospel touched the very household of the Caesars. Later accounts hold that she and her husband suffered for their belief, and Clemens was put to death under Domitian.

Venerated as a noblewoman who chose Christ above the favor of emperors, Flavia Domitilla is remembered among the early saints of Rome.

Suggested prayer

O God, who led the noblewoman Flavia Domitilla from the courts of the Caesars to the company of your saints, grant through her intercession that all who are raised to honors may seek the honor that comes from you alone. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
