About
Genesius was a Roman actor in the late third century, during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. According to tradition, he led a troupe of actors who performed satirical plays mocking the Christian faith.
While performing a mock baptism before the emperor, Genesius was suddenly converted. He stopped the play, declared himself a Christian, and refused to renounce his new faith.
Diocletian ordered him tortured and beheaded around the year 303. He is remembered as the patron saint of actors, comedians, and those who work in the theater.
Prayer
St. Genesius, who was converted in the middle of a mock baptism before the emperor and died for the faith you had mocked, pray for actors and for all who work in the arts, that their craft may serve the truth. Amen.
