About
Hubert was a Frankish nobleman of the seventh century who loved hunting above all else. According to legend, while hunting on Good Friday, he saw a stag with a crucifix shining between its antlers, and he heard a voice calling him to conversion.
He renounced his worldly life, became a disciple of St. Lambert of Maastricht, and eventually succeeded him as bishop of Liege. Hubert worked tirelessly to evangelize the Ardennes region and was known for his humility and charity.
He died in 727 and is venerated as the patron saint of hunters, and his conversion is commemorated in the tradition of the Hubertus Mass and the blessing of hunting dogs.
Prayer
St. Hubert, who saw the crucifix shining between the stag's antlers on Good Friday and left your hunting for the Gospel, pray for hunters and for all who seek God in the wilderness, that they may hear His voice. Amen.
