About
Saint Martha was the mother of Simeon Stylites the Younger, the sixth-century Syrian stylite renowned for decades of ascetic witness atop his pillar. Martha's own holiness is inseparable from the saint she raised: her prayers, tears, and patient devotion formed the heart of the boy who would become one of the most celebrated ascetics of the East. Venerated in the Eastern Orthodox Church on July 4 and in the Catholic Church on July 5, she stands as a mother whose quiet faith bore fruit in the heroic sanctity of her son, an enduring model of maternal devotion ordered toward God.
Suggested prayer
O God, who blessed St. Martha to rear a son in the way of holiness, grant through her intercession that Christian mothers may form their children in faith and love. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
