About
Quinidius (French: Quenin; died c. 579) was a hermit, deacon, and bishop of Vaison-la-Romaine in Provence. Born to a noble family, his mother, while pregnant, pilgrimaged to the tomb of Trophimus of Arles, where an angel prophesied her son would lead many to beatitude. As a young man he withdrew as a hermit near Toulon and at Lérins Abbey, devoting himself to prayer.
Recalled by Bishop Theodosius, he was made archdeacon and signed the acts of the Synod of Arles in 552. With King Childebert I's approval he became coadjutor and, on Theodosius's death in 556, Bishop of Vaison. Renowned for charity toward the sick, children, the elderly, and prisoners, he built churches and hospices. His sarcophagus became the scene of reported miracles, and he is a patron saint of Vaison-la-Romaine.
Suggested prayer
O God, who called your servant Quinidius from the solitude of the hermit's cell to serve your Church as deacon and bishop, grant through his intercession that we may seek you above all things in prayer and serve your people with humble hearts. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
