About
Saint Tryphine is a semi-legendary Breton saint whose story is often considered the basis of the tale of Bluebeard. The legend likely derives from a historical woman who was the wife of Conomor, an early and ruthless Breton ruler. According to tradition, Tryphine suffered greatly at his hands yet remained faithful and God-fearing. In Brittany she is widely revered as a patron saint of sick children and of expectant mothers whose babies are overdue. Her feast is kept on 21 July, and she remains a tender intercessor for mothers and little ones across the Breton countryside.
Suggested prayer
O God, who strengthened Saint Tryphine in her suffering and made her a tender patron of mothers and sick children, grant through her intercession that all who call upon her may find comfort and healing. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
