About
Ursula was a legendary British princess venerated as a virgin martyr. According to tradition, she traveled across Europe with a large company of virgin companions on a pilgrimage to Rome.
On their return journey, they were attacked by Huns near Cologne, and Ursula and her companions were martyred rather than renounce their faith, around the fourth century.
Her cult spread widely in the Middle Ages, especially after the discovery of a Roman burial ground in Cologne. She is venerated as the patron saint of teachers, schoolgirls, and students.
Prayer
O God, who crowned St. Ursula and her companions with martyrdom, grant teachers and students steadfast faith and growing wisdom. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
