About

Zacchaeus of Jerusalem, also known as Zacharias, was the fourth Bishop of Jerusalem, standing in the line of succession that traces back to the apostles themselves. Venerated by both the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches, he shepherded the mother church of Christendom in the second century, the community born at Pentecost in the city where Christ died and rose. Few details of his life survive, but his office places him among the earliest guardians of the holy places and the faith they proclaim. His feast is celebrated on August 23, and he is honored as a faithful steward of the Church of Jerusalem.

Suggested prayer

O God, who made Saint Zacchaeus a faithful steward of the Church of Jerusalem, the city of your Son's death and resurrection, grant through his intercession that we may be rooted in the apostolic faith. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
