About
Dominic was born in 1842 in Riva, Italy, the son of a blacksmith. At the age of twelve he became a student of St. John Bosco at the Oratory of St. Francis de Sales in Turin, where he quickly became known for his holiness.
Dominic made a resolution to live simply: death rather than sin. He formed a sodality of boys devoted to Mary, helped his classmates with their studies, and cared for the sick. He was cheerful, prayerful, and deeply devoted to the Eucharist.
He died of illness on March 9, 1857, at the age of fourteen, and was canonized in 1954. He is venerated as the patron saint of youth.
Suggested prayer
O God, who gave the young Dominic Savio a heart resolved to choose death rather than sin, grant through his intercession that young people may grow in purity, joy, and love of You. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
