About

Saint Nebridius was a sixth-century bishop of Egara, modern Terrassa in Catalonia, serving from 516 to 527, and later bishop of Barcelona from about 540 to 547. A native of Girona, he belonged to a remarkable family: tradition holds that three of his brothers were also venerated as saints—Saint Justus, bishop of Urgell; Saint Elpidius; and Saint Justinian. Nebridius was a learned man who wrote interpretations of the Scriptures and composed a work on the church chants titled In cantica canticorum. As a Benedictine bishop he governed his sees with care and fostered the liturgical life of the Church in Hispania. His feast falls on February 9. He is remembered as a scholar-bishop of early medieval Spain.
