About

Saint Urciscenus served as Bishop of Pavia from around the year 183 until his death in 216, guiding that see during a period of intensifying persecution under the Roman emperors. As one of the earliest known bishops of Pavia, he is credited with consolidating the Christian community in northern Italy at a time when the profession of the faith could mean suffering and death.

Honored for his courage and pastoral care amid persecution, Urciscenus has been venerated for centuries as a model of steadfast leadership. His feast is kept on June 21, and the Church of Pavia long treasured his memory as a witness to the endurance of the early episcopate under trial.

Suggested prayer

O God, who strengthened Saint Urciscenus to govern your Church at Pavia in a time of persecution, grant through his intercession that all bishops may remain faithful shepherds amid the trials of their age. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
